Als Kriegs- und Totengott, Herr der Berserker oder oberste Gottheit der Germanen spielt Odin bis heute eine große Rolle in völkischen, rechtsextremen und neopaganen Diskursen. Doch wie ist es dazu gekommen? Welche Faktoren trugen zur Erzeugung des Odin-Bildes bei, das bis heute präsent ist? Und wie sah die Odin-Verehrung im heidnischen Norden wirklich aus? Klaus Böldl bietet zum ersten Mal einen fundierten religionsgeschichtlichen Überblick sowohl über die Quellenlage als auch über die lange Rezeptionsgeschichte des "dunklen" Gottes vom Mittelalter bis heute. G. Jung. Vor allem durch die weite historische Perspektive entlarvt Klaus Böldl diese Instrumentalisierung des Gottes als identitätspolitische Konstruktion, die jedoch bis heute in der Heavy-Metal-Szene, bei Wikinger- und Mittelalterbegeisterten, bei Esoterikern und Neuheiden sowie in rechten und rechtsextremen Milieus gepflegt wird.
