"Bibi - en lille piges liv" er første bind af Bibi-bøgerne, der kom i syv bind 1929-39. I disse ungpigeromaner møder læseren stationsforstanderens datter Bibi, der er moderløs, men netop derfor fri. Hun er en idealistisk pige, der rejser gratis med statsbanerne og kæmper uforfærdet for dyrenes sag. "Karin Michaëlis' popularitet i hendes samtid kan ses i, hvordan hun var til inspiration for andre forfattere.
