The term 'anni di piombo' [years of lead], by which these years were called, derives from the title of a film by Margarethe Von Trotta released in 1981, which dealt with the similar, contemporary experience in West Germany. What I am about to tell you is a story that is mine, but which belongs to everyone, even if we often forget it. And this story is also a journey. ... Thus begins this play written for the theatre, which traverses and recounts the whole of Italy and retraces the recent years of our history.
