Alexander Coppen The Devils' Glossary

The Devils' Glossary: An Anti-Brainwashing Guide offers a satirical A-Z compendium that dismantles the jargon and doublespeak of the "woke" era, exposing the dangerous intellectual rot in modern academia and culture. Drawing inspiration from Ambrose Bierce's The Devil's Dictionary (1911), it updates that tradition of biting wit for the 21st century, targeting the neo-humanities, social sciences, and grievance-based "studies" degrees built from ideologically driven nonsense. Featuring over 300 mis-definitions and 2500+ references, this five-year endeavour serves as both a glossary and a manifesto, aiming to unmask the origins of terms like "phobia," "equity," "gender," and "stigma" as tools of manipulation rooted in a new puritanism masquerading as progress. Structured in five parts, the book begins with an exploration of "idea laundering" and the "poisonous core of narcissism" in modern scholarship, followed by the A-Z glossary of loaded terms. The next section breaks down the mechanics of "broken thinking," providing tools to discern truth, identify fallacies, and understand cognitive biases. "Dark Arts & Dirty Tricks" uncovers manipulative tactics such as semantic overloading and malicious conflation, while the final part, "Deprogramming Alternative Theology," presents a framework for countering ideological extremism through modules on social engineering, ideological subversion, and deprogramming. The tone of The Devils' Glossary is sharp and often contemptuous, reflecting a view of a "collective, multi-disciplinary guilt" in the corruption of language and philosophy. Aimed at parents, students, theologians, and curious minds, this book poses critical questions: Where do these ideas originate? How do they infiltrate daily life? And how can malicious indoctrination be resisted? Part homage to Bierce, part intellectual call-to-arms, The Devils' Glossary delivers a provocative guide for those seeking to navigate and challenge the cultural currents of today.
