Aaron Aaberg The Drone Battlefield

The Drone Battlefield: Remote Pilots, Surveillance, and the New Shape of Air War is a clear, fact-based history of how unmanned aircraft changed modern warfare. From early radio-controlled targets and Cold War reconnaissance drones to Predator, Reaper, Bayraktar-style armed drones, loitering munitions, FPV systems, and the drone-saturated battlefields of Ukraine, this book explains how air power moved beyond the cockpit. Written in plain English for general readers, aviation enthusiasts, military-history readers, and students, the book explores drones as tools of surveillance, strike, propaganda, electronic warfare, counter-drone defence, battlefield economics, and future human-machine teaming. It shows why drones are powerful but not magical, why they do not replace soldiers, artillery, aircraft, or air defence, and why the human cost of unmanned warfare remains central. This is not a technical manual. It is a serious military aviation history of the machines, people, decisions, laws, and consequences behind the modern drone battlefield.
