James J. Riley Journey to the Coast : Coast FIRE, Geoarbitrage, & Financial Independence

The FIRE movement - which stands for Financially Independent Retired Early, has become increasingly popular - and why not? Everyone wants to retire early! The problem is that it can take a long time to get there. However, Coast FIRE is a less well-known approach to FIRE that allows you to retire earlier than you may have expected by establishing your full retirement savings number and your target age for full retirement. A little bit of math based on historical returns on investment allows you to see when you'll have enough to quit saving for retirement. At this point, you only need to cover your daily living expenses - which means you can work less. Reducing your living expenses by taking advantage of geoarbitrage can make this happen even more quickly than you ever could have imagined! In some cases, you may only need to work a few hours a week! In this book, I lay out what FIRE is, the different approaches to FIRE, and how the time value of money can help you get to Coast FIRE faster than you ever thought possible. The second part of this book touches on the benefits of geoarbitrage, and includes seven locations you should consider when making your move to a low cost of living country (LCOLC). It also contains information on visas and taxes in several locations that anyone would love to visit. Finally, the third and fourth parts of this book deal with practical questions that you should ask yourself as you prepare to Coast FIRE and after you've finally made the decision to Coast. This book contains my own real-world experiences that are both practical and actionable. Coast FIRE and geoarbitrage have helped me to achieve financial independence in my early 40s and live a life that I once thought was impossible. I hope my experiences can inspire you and also lead you to ask the necessary questions of yourself so that you can enjoy the same freedom.
