Robert Ingraham Abraham Lincoln & the Promise of 1776

Lincoln & the Promise of 1776 This is a unique work on Abraham Lincoln, one which focuses on the deeper principles and ideas which motivated Lincoln throughout his life. Topics include: Lincoln and Education. Lincoln and Science, Greenbacks and National Banking, Shakespeare and Macbeth, Lincoln and metaphor, Lincoln versus the British Empire, the U.S.-Russian alliance, Edward Baker, the creation of the Republican Party, and much, much more. In 1856, with the nation facing disaster, Lincoln declared "We will build our new party based on Principle," and Lincoln insisted that the new Republican Party must look to the Declaration of Independence as the bedrock for its outlook and initiatives. This book is written for the purpose of asking the question, "What is the relevance of Lincoln for the crisis of today?" Hopefully, it will contribute to a productive dialogue among a growing number of individuals, and a re-discovery of the essential principles of citizenship. This book is unlike any other work on Lincoln you will have read. 280 pages.
