Behzad Ghorbani Human Sexual Evolution: The Transformation of Intimacy, Desire, and Identity in the Modern World

Sex, love, and intimacy have never been static concepts. Across human history, our understanding of relationships and desire has evolved in response to shifting cultural, technological, and biological forces. Today, in the modern world, these forces are accelerating at an unprecedented rate, raising urgent questions about the future of human connection. Human Sexual Evolution: The Transformation of Intimacy, Desire, and Identity in the Modern World explores how neuroscience, psychology, and technology are reshaping our most fundamental experiences of attraction, bonding, and sexuality. At the core of human relationships lies a complex interplay of biological imperatives and social constructs. This book examines the evolutionary foundations of human sexuality, tracing how mate selection, romantic attachment, and reproductive strategies have been shaped by natural selection. Through the lens of neuroscience, it explores how neurotransmitters such as dopamine, oxytocin, and serotonin govern passion, infatuation, and long-term attachment, shedding light on why love is both intoxicating and painful. It also investigates how aging, monogamy, and shifting gender dynamics influence our experience of relationships over time. Yet biology alone does not dictate human sexuality. Cultural norms, legal systems, and technological innovations have played a critical role in redefining intimacy. This book delves into the impact of digitalisation on human connection, from the rise of dating apps that gamify attraction to the emergence of AI-driven romantic partners that blur the lines between human and artificial love. As virtual reality, neurotechnology, and AI-generated sexual companions become more advanced, the boundaries of intimacy are being redrawn. But does this technology enhance human relationships, or does it create a generation more comfortable with digital pleasure than real human connection? Another crucial aspect of modern sexuality is the commodification of desire. Platforms like OnlyFans, the prevalence of online pornography, and the gamification of dating have turned intimacy into a marketable product. This book questions how the monetisation of sex influences human psychology, emotional well-being, and relationship dynamics. Are we heading toward a world where intimacy is increasingly performative, dictated by algorithms and economic incentives rather than genuine human connection? Beyond these immediate changes, Human Sexual Evolution looks toward the radical future of human intimacy. With advances in genetic engineering, neurostimulation, and AI consciousness, could sexual attraction itself be reprogrammed? Will future generations have the ability to modify their desires, eliminating unwanted attractions or designing their perfect partners? Could human sexuality evolve beyond biological constraints into a post-human form of intimacy, where physical bodies are no longer necessary for love, pleasure, and connection? This book does not offer simple answers but instead presents a deeply analytical and thought-provoking examination of where human intimacy is heading. Will these transformations lead to greater sexual freedom and relational diversity, or will they erode the very essence of human connection? Human Sexual Evolution: The Transformation of Intimacy, Desire, and Identity in the Modern World challenges readers to consider whether we are evolving toward a more liberated, fulfilling future, or one in which intimacy itself becomes unrecognisable.
