Joachim Von Mullerhoff Arbatel de Magia Veterum

The Arbatel for the 21st Century: Rediscovering a cornerstone of Western Magic for the contemporary practitioner. For centuries, the Arbatel de Magia Veterum , first published in Basel in 1575, has been a source of fascination. Unlike other complex and dark grimoires of its time, the Arbatel presents a unique and luminous system of magic and spiritual attainment, rooted in planetary magic, a spirit of piety, and Christian Neoplatonism. And now, this contemporary 2026 translation by Joachim von Mullerhoff unveils this essential work for a new generation of seekers, mages, witches, and academics. This definitive volume presents the complete Arbatel in two distinct, novel translations, allowing for a new depth of understanding. The Contemporary English Translation: Magic is a living art, and thus everchanging. To that end, this edition includes an accessible, complete translation, into clear modern English. While it faithfully retains the core concepts, instructions, and spiritual essence of the Renaissance grimoire, this contemporary version removes archaic linguistic barriers to facilitate better reading flow and easier understanding. This is an Arbatel designed for the modern magic practitioner who seeks to discover, understand, and integrate the timeless wisdom of the seven Olympic Spirits and their mysteries into their own spiritual and magical practice. The Literal Translation: An Arbatel ideal for the purist, the historian, and the serious student of the occult, this translation offers a meticulously rendered English version of the original 16th-century Latin. Here, von Mullerhoff painstakingly preserves the precise terminology, syntax, and true voice of the original text, allowing you to engage with the magic of the Arbatel , and study it, as its first readers did. This version constitutes an invaluable tool for academic study and for those who wish to commune directly with the source. Additionally, in this edition, Joachim von Mullerhoff provides an insightful and comprehensive discussion of the Arbatel's continued significance as a foundational text of Ceremonial Magic, and its contemporary relevance, covering the historical context it was written in, its theological uniqueness, and its impact on subsequent magical traditions such as its subtle influence on witchcraft and other modern forms and expressions of magical practice. This modern edition for study and practice is perfect for seasoned magicians, witches, historians, and newcomers curious about the luminous path of Renaissance planetary magic.
