Jorge Raigosa Equine Therapy Neuroscience Healing A

Equine Therapy: The Neuroscience of Connection presents a comprehensive interdisciplinary exploration of human-horse interaction, integrating principles of neuroscience, physiology, and psychology with experiential and spiritual insights. The work demonstrates that equine-assisted interventions are not solely therapeutic experiences but induce measurable neurobiological and psychophysiological effects. Rhythmic equine movement, nonverbal communication, and the horse's presence promote parasympathetic activation, reduce cortisol, enhance oxytocin, and modulate neurotransmitters such as GABA, serotonin, and dopamine, fostering emotional regulation, resilience, and well-being.Structured in three parts, the book first establishes foundational principles of holistic interaction, emphasizing mindfulness, co-regulation, and bioenergetic synchronization between horse and human. The second part presents neurophysiological, epigenetic, and bioenergetic mechanisms underlying the observed effects, supported by contemporary scientific literature. The final section integrates spiritual and symbolic dimensions, highlighting the horse as archetypal guide and mirror of emotional states, and detailing mindful rituals that strengthen human-equine bonds. This interdisciplinary approach positions equine therapy as a model for integrative health practices, bridging empirical science with experiential and contemplative knowledge. The work offers clinicians, researchers, and humanists a rigorous framework to understand the biological, emotional, and spiritual impact of equine-assisted interventions, supporting both clinical application and personal transformation.
