Somchai Yun Under the Balsam Boughs - An MM Christmas Tree Farm Romance

Caleb Whitman left his family's Oregon Christmas tree farm ten years ago with no intention of looking back. He built a successful architecture career in Seattle, a life on his own terms-far from the expectations and obligations that suffocated him. But when his mother calls begging him to come home for Christmas because the farm is in crisis, Caleb can't refuse. He tells himself it's just one weekend. Then he'll return to the city and forget about the towering evergreens, the scent of balsam, and Julian Torres-the farm manager who seamlessly stepped into the role Caleb abandoned, becoming the son his family actually wanted. Julian has spent a decade managing the Whitman farm, carrying it through hard seasons while Caleb built his escape. He's made peace with loving a place that will never truly be his, and with the fact that Caleb sees him as a rival rather than what he really is: someone who stayed because leaving wasn't an option. When a routine supply run to the mountain cabin traps them together as a historic blizzard descends, their carefully maintained hostility cracks under the pressure of survival. Three days. One small cabin. Temperatures dropping to life-threatening levels. No rescue coming until the storm passes. Forced proximity strips away their defenses. Old resentments surface-Caleb's jealousy that Julian fit so easily into his family, Julian's hurt that Caleb never looked back. But beneath the anger lies something neither expected: longing that's been building for longer than either wants to admit. Meanwhile, at the farmhouse, Caleb's younger brother Alex finds himself unexpectedly drawn to Sam, the veterinarian who arrived just before the storm hit. As they work together to save the barn and animals from the blizzard's assault, a quieter romance blooms-one built on competence, trust, and the courage to reach for connection. When Caleb and Julian finally make it back to the farm, they face devastation: thirty percent of their Christmas tree inventory destroyed. Financial ruin looms. But the storm revealed more than just damage-it showed them what matters, what's worth fighting for, and that home isn't a place you're trapped in but the people you choose to build a life with. With only days until Christmas, they'll need to execute a desperate plan to save the season. More importantly, Caleb will need to decide if he has the courage to stay-not just for the farm, but for Julian, and for the future they could create together under the balsam boughs where his family's legacy began.
