Hulda Buckridge Build Your Home Pottery Studio

You already know you want to throw clay at home. What nobody told you is where to actually do it. Almost every pottery book starts with technique and assumes you already have somewhere to practice. This one starts earlier. It answers the questions that come before the wheel ever arrives: which room in your house can actually support a ceramics studio, what your electrical panel needs to run a kiln safely, why clay water and household drains are fundamentally incompatible, and what a realistic budget looks like from the first purchase through to a fully independent home pottery studio setup. The chapters move in the order decisions actually need to be made:Space assessment - an honest look at garages, basements, garden sheds, and spare rooms, including the constraints most studio guides quietly skipKiln selection - types, sizes, cone ratings, new versus second-hand, and what the dedicated electrical circuit installation actually costs in real US dollarsPottery wheel selection - motor power explained plainly, noise in a domestic setting addressed, and a clear checklist for assessing a used wheel before buying Also Inside:Flooring, ventilation, and clay waste settling systems that protect your drains from day oneA three-phase budget approach that lets you start practicing before everything is readyStorage systems for raw clay, glazes, bisqueware, and work in progress at every drying stageA pre-firing safety checklist and a studio setup verification list to keep in the space permanently The studio you can realistically have is closer than the full picture suggests. Stop planning around incomplete information. This book is the complete picture. Build your studio.
