Robert Williams Enwogion Cymru. A Biographical Dictionary Of Eminent Welshmen, From The Earliest Times To The Present, And Including Every Name Connected With The Ancient History Of Wales

From legendary princes and medieval bards to radical reformers and patient scholars, Enwogion Cymru gathers the lives that shaped a nation. These Welsh lives still matter. Robert Williams's Enwogion Cymru is a landmark welsh biographical dictionary, presenting concise, richly informed sketches of eminent Welsh historical figures from the earliest traditions of the Cymry through medieval and early modern Wales and into the nineteenth century. Drawing on chronicles, manuscripts, and local memory, it offers ancient Welsh history biographies alongside portraits of poets, clergy, statesmen, antiquaries, and quiet local worthies, forming a history of Wales book told through individual lives. Both a trusted welsh biography reference book and an evocative celtic history reference work, it remains invaluable for historians and researchers, for Welsh genealogy research, and for readers of the Dictionary of National Biography seeking deeper roots in Celtic Britain. First published in the great age of 19th century Welsh scholarship, this volume still stands among essential celtic studies reference books and a cornerstone of modern understanding of Wales's cultural identity. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure. Ideal for the serious reference shelf yet inviting enough for the curious browser, Enwogion Cymru belongs equally in the hands of casual history enthusiasts and those building a lasting library of classic Welsh titles.
