Christophe Basso An Intuitive Guide to Compensating Switching Power Supplies

An Intuitive Guide to Compensating Switching Power Supplies is a practical manual for power supply engineers; helping to create stable and robust converters. Most technical books covering loop control go deep into theory, but are shallow on design and lack practical examples. This new book introduces intuitive theories-the good news is, you don't need to know everything for a good job on control loops-and then dives into many examples simulated with SIMPLIS®. All the examples can be freely downloaded and most will run on the Elements demonstration version. Once Elements is installed, you can start simulating your converter! Included in this book: ¿ A few pages of theory...¿ Buck Converter in Voltage-Mode Control¿ Buck Converter in Current-Mode Control¿ Forward Converter in Voltage-Mode Control¿ LLC Converters in Various Control Schemes¿ And many more examples with PFC and UC384x circuits With this book, you will no longer arbitrarily pick a crossover frequency or phase margin. You will learn how to boost the phase with a compensator using an operational amplifier, a TL431 or an OTA, but also understand how an optocoupler degrades phase margin. I detail options to extend its bandwidth along with many more tricks for making the reader an expert in loop compensation. This book is an ideal companion for graduate and seasoned engineers but also for field application engineers (FAEs) willing to understand the topic and rescue their customers in loop distress.
