Jim Schultz The Birds in My Life

Perth, the capital of Western Australia, is home to an astonishing diversity of bird life, thriving in one of the most pristine and ecologically rich landscapes in the world. Nestled between the Indian Ocean and vast inland wilderness, the city sits on Whadjuk Noongar land, where a deep connection to nature has existed for at least 45,000 years. Despite being a modern metropolis of 2.1 million residents, Perth remains one of the world's least densely populated cities, offering an extraordinary variety of bird habitats, from coastal shores and river wetlands to open woodlands and ancient forests. In The Birds in My Life: A serious bird lover's guide to birding in the Perth greater metro and beyond, author Jim Schultz takes readers on an unforgettable journey through the region's avian wonders. Over 190 bird species call this area home, including many Western Australian endemics, international migratory waders, and a surprising number of introduced species. This book unveils their hidden world, guiding you to more than 200 prime birdwatching locations throughout the Perth region and beyond. Whether you are an avid birder or a curious observer, you will discover where and when to find these incredible birds, along with expert photography tips to capture them in all their splendour.
