Justin McGuirk Future Observatory Journal

If ever there was a moment to imagine new ways of building the future, it is now. Future Observatory Journal: New Narratives for Design, Ecology and the Future brings together essays and visual propositions from leading thinkers, practitioners, and researchers to examine how design can help shape the green transition. If ever there was a time to consider alternative ways of building a future, it is now. What we do this decade will shape the rest of the century. But what if, rather than fetishising innovation, what we really need is new ways of thinking, new frameworks, new narratives? Future Observatory Journal: New Narratives for Design, Ecology and a Future brings together the first three online issues of Future Observatory Journal into a single, unified volume. Conceived by Future Observatory, a research platform based at London’s Design Museum, this edition weaves the journal’s founding themes – Bioregioning, More Than Human, and In Abundance – into a cohesive and richly layered publication. The book features writing and visual propositions by leading thinkers, practitioners and researchers, drawing these strands into an investigation of design’s role in shaping the green transition. Meticulously designed and crafted by Studio Airport, the publication transforms the journal’s early explorations into a tactile experience that reflects the forward-looking spirit of Future Observatory.
