Joseph Alexander, Tim Pettingale og Oz Noy Triad Comping For Modern Guitar

Unlock the Hidden Harmonic Power of Triads What if the simplest chord shapes you know could unlock an almost limitless world of modern harmony? Most guitarists learn major and minor triads as basic chord shapes. But in the hands of master guitarist Oz Noy, these simple three-note structures become the gateway to melodic voice leading, altered sounds and colourful inside-outside movement. Triad Comping for Modern Guitar is not another collection of chord shapes to memorise. It gives you a practical system for choosing sounds with intention and turning static grips into moving phrases. Most importantly, Oz teaches you to stop asking, "What chord shape should I play?" and start asking, "What colour do I want to create?" Master the Complete Triad Fretboard Build a practical working knowledge of: Major, Minor, Augmented and Diminished Triads: Master the four essential triad families across the entire neck. Closed and Open Voicings: Move between compact and spacious sounds on different string sets. Triad Inversions: Connect chords smoothly without jumping around the fretboard. Harmonised Scale Triads: Draw from a complete family of related sounds rather than treating one chord as one fixed shape. Natural Minor, Melodic Minor and Dorian Harmony: Explore three distinctive approaches to minor tonalities. Quartal Sounds: Reduce sophisticated fourth-based harmony into practical three-note structures. Whole-Tone and Diminished Harmony: Access modern altered-dominant sounds using familiar shapes. Turn Simple Triads into Sophisticated Modern Harmony Once these foundations are in place, you'll learn how to apply triads creatively. Superimpose different triads over the same underlying chord to reveal extensions, or use an entire harmonised scale as a pool of comping possibilities. You'll discover how to: Create smooth, melodic voice-leading pathways across the fretboard Transform one chord into several harmonic colours by changing the triad above the bass note "Minorize" dominant chords using Dorian and melodic minor harmony Create altered sounds with augmented triads, whole-tone harmony and diminished triad pairs Control outside tension through chromatic approaches, sidestepping and chordal enclosures Turn static voicings into comping phrases that interact with the music around you Learn to Think Like a Creative Comping Guitarist This isn't a dictionary of chord shapes. Oz shows you how to use a relatively small vocabulary of three-note structures as a "generative system" for creating your own ideas. You'll learn to hear a chord as part of a bigger tonal universe. And rather than simply reproducing Oz's phrases, you'll learn to explore different combinations, find elegant routes through chord changes and build your own phrase bank. The goal is a personal harmonic language that responds to the music in real time. Play Everything as Real Music Every concept is tested through musical comping studies before everything comes together over two essential jazz forms: a Charlie Parker-style jazz blues and Rhythm Changes. You'll hear the four triad families interact over real progressions and discover how comping can become every bit as melodic and expressive as soloing.
