Theodore Kautzky The Ted Kautzky Pencil Book

Make Your Drawings Come to Life Using Kautzky's Technique Ted Kautzky, a prominent American artist throughout the twentieth century, dedicated much of his life to conveying his artistic techniques to students. This book-combining his acclaimed works Pencil Pictures and Pencil Broadsides, plus additional material-contains the essence of his teachings on the art of pencil drawing. Through the use of numerous sequential sketches, diagrams, and finished drawings, accompanied by full explanatory text, it covers the methods and approaches that made Kautzky a unique artist and teacher. Part I focuses on creating pictures of subject matter found in nature, from seascapes to landscapes, with specific lessons on drawing various kinds of trees, brickwork, shrubbery, flowers, and roofs, along with pointers on composition. Part II offers instruction on planning a drawing, using contrast, and arranging elements in a variety of visual environments, such as villages, forests, mountains, winter landscapes, and fishing ports. Part III presents over thirty of Kautzky's beautifully executed broad-stroke drawings of a wide range of subjects, some of which were commissioned works, ranging from New York City parks and avenues to seashore scenery to New England and European village scenes. The Ted Kautzky Pencil Book serves as a comprehensive resource for creating dynamic, captivating pencil drawings. Though originally published several decades ago, the techniques and illustrations included in this work continue to provide an invaluable reference for artists of any skill level. Artists referring to it over the years will be inspired again and again to pick up a pencil and breathe life into their artistic vision.
