Shambhala Publications Inc Modern Rug Hooking (4, 2019) | Rose Pearlman

The complete guide to creating and designing modern rug hooking projects for the home, from artist and teacher Rose Pearlman. Punch needle rug hooking is a forgiving and satisfying fiber craft with stunning results, which is part of the reason it's undergoing a surge of interest, with Rose Pearlman--a longtime rug hooker and artist--helping to lead a new wave of enthusiasm. Focusing on color, texture, and design, Rose's abstract designs for functional objects bring this traditional art into the contemporary craft world. Through the 25 projects in this book, you'll discover the versatility of form and function that can be explored through simple materials. Start with small projects to familiarize yourself with the process--a zip pouch, slide shoes, and a mini purse; from there, graduate to more ambitious pieces--a bolster, a reversible rug, and a catchall basket. With your rug hooking skills honed, turn toward the innovative--a headboard made with plant-dyed and stripped bed sheets and art to hang made with repurposed plastic bags. With details on the use of color, creating a strong composition, and using unusual materials, this is an artist's guide to an incredibly versatile craft.
