Orion Publishing Co Inside Out (4, 2017) | Nick Mason

The definitive history of Pink Floyd, one of the world's greatest bands, by founder Nick Mason. 'One of the greatest stories in the pantheon of rock' Guardian 'Wise and witty' Ian Rankin 'A miracle' Ruby Wax One of the most fascinating rock bands ever, Pink Floyd was formed in 1965. After a year in the London 'underground' experimenting with revolutionary techniques such as lights that matched their music, they released their first single in 1966. Their breakthrough album, The Dark Side of the Moon , was released in 1973 and stayed in the charts until 1982, the longest a record has ever been continuously in the charts, becoming one of the best-selling albums of all time. In 1975 they released Wish You Were Here , which reached iconic status, then in 1979 The Wall went to number 1 in almost every country in the world. The movie version of The Wall starring Bob Geldof was released in 1982, becoming a cult favourite. In the 1980s a rift developed between the band members which culminated in lawsuits. Only recently have there been reconciliations which have allowed founder member Nick Mason to write his personal take on the band's history. 'A seminal book - intelligent, literate rock and roll memoir full of candour and wit' Alan Parker 'A real pleasure - a rich, funny and fascinating story. Nick is a wonderfully dry and laconic guide' Peter Gabriel 'I doubt whether anyone could tell this story so well as the patient, witty man who watched it all unfold from his perch behind the drum kit' Paul Dy Noyer, founder of Mojo magazine 'Debonair detachment, engaging wit, always readable' Time Out Readers love this: 'This is a beautiful book, written with love. Nick Mason is the only person who could have written it. Everyone else would have had an axe to grind' 'Credit where credit's due . . . [Mason] did make me p**s my pants laughing many, many times' 'This is a great Floyd book, love Nick Mason's style of writing, makes you feel as if you are part of the goings on' 'Humorous, informative and a thoroughly good read. Essential for any Floyd fan'
