William M. Miller Forgotten Voices of WWI

The Great War Was Much More Than Battles, Trenches, and Gas Attacks. ... How innocent we were in 1917. Lost in our lethargy and wrapped in a safe cocoon of confidence, we had serenely watched Europe dragged into a second year of savage war-muddy trenches bathed in blood and yellow gas.But then the world changed. For every soldier, sailor, pilot, or marine who answers a country's call, there are mothers, fathers, relatives, and friends who do more than just stand and wait. Until the end of war, through tears and fears, they become the beacons of home.We may have heard of the battles and the politics of the "war to end war," but rarely do we hear of those Americans who, from the very moment the first shot was fired, rushed to the aid of France. In "Forgotten Voices of WWI" you will hear in their own voice what soldiers, sailors, relatives, protestors, civilian volunteers, correspondents, and others, were thinking, doing, and saying. They are the forgotten warriors--the people whose voices speak again.
