Dorrit Kromann Building Bridges in Board Dynamics

Building Bridges in Board Dynamics by Dorrit Kromann, with contributing author Leo Smith, is a comprehensive guide for board members seeking to enhance their effectiveness and better navigate the complex dynamics of the boardroom. The book addresses several key aspects of board dynamics: Board Basics and Framework The book provides foundational knowledge about board types, functions and the psychodynamic system theory as a framework for understanding board dynamics. This approach helps readers grasp the complex, interconnected nature of organizations and the processes that influence board interactions. Personal and Group Dynamics Readers will learn about personal dynamics and how they affect individual contributions to the board. The book also explores core group dynamics, helping members understand interactions between themselves and others, and how to respond effectively. Above and Below the Surface The authors differentiate between tangible (above the surface) and intangible (below the surface) factors that define a board and individual roles within it. This includes exploring both soft and hard factors that influence board effectiveness. Talent-Based Board Work The book guides readers in identifying their talents and understanding how these interact with others, optimizing their contributions to board work. Committees and Boundaries Finally, the book examines the unique dynamics of board committees, which operate at the boundary zone between the board and the operational organization. By providing concise explanations and examples, Building Bridges in Board Dynamics equips readers with the tools to navigate complex boardroom interactions, enhance their performance and contribute to building high-performing boards.
