Jack E. Soutar The Tao is in the Now

Humans live in a state of "sleep" or mechanical consciousness, and through intentional work of self-remembering and self-observation, one can achieve higher states of awareness. We live in an age of constant stimulation, yet many people feel inwardly distant from their own lives. Beneath the surface of routine, thought, and distraction lies a quiet intuition that something essential is being overlooked. The Tao is in the Now explores this intuition and points toward a simple yet demanding possibility: awakening to the living reality of the present moment. Much of human experience unfolds in psychological sleep. We react automatically, identify with passing thoughts, and become absorbed in narratives that pull attention away from direct experience. This mechanical mode of living can create a sense of fragmentation, restlessness, and subtle dissatisfaction. Despite exposure to mindfulness and spiritual ideas, many still struggle to translate insight into sustained awareness. Drawing from contemplative traditions, esoteric psychology, and personal inquiry, Jack E. Soutar approaches awakening as a practical and experiential process rather than a conceptual one. His exploration of self-remembering, divided attention, and inner observation offers readers a framework for understanding consciousness while remaining grounded in everyday life. Through reflection, exercises in awareness, and philosophical insight, the book encourages readers to notice habitual patterns, soften identification with thought, and rediscover the depth hidden within ordinary moments. Rather than dramatic breakthroughs, the emphasis is on subtle shifts in perception that gradually cultivate clarity, presence, and a more intimate relationship with being. The Tao is in the Now is an invitation to pause, observe, and explore. It does not ask for belief or adherence to a system, only a willingness to look inward with sincerity. For readers drawn to mindfulness, mysticism, or the quiet path of self-knowledge, this book offers a companion for the ongoing journey of awakening to what is already here.
