M Charlotte Wolf Ph D og M. Charlotte Wolf Great German Short Stories of the Twentieth Century

Ideal for students, this affordable anthology features expert new translations of thirteen stories, most of which date from the last fifty years. Previously unavailable in English versions, the tales feature a diversity of styles and themes and offer fascinating insights into German life and literature. English translations appear alongside the original German text of such stories as "Beauty and the Beast" by Irmtraud Morgner, Gabriele Wohmann's "Good Luck and Bad Luck," "Fratricide in the Backwater" by Georg Britting, and Carl Grunert's "The Archaeopteryx Egg." Other selections by important modern authors include tales by Alfred Henschke (aka Klabund), Michael Inneberger, and Iris Klockmann. The text is completely self-contained -- no further apparatus or reference is necessary. Appropriate for high school and college courses, this dual-language edition is also ideal for independent study.
